The crime laboratories development has been classified by rapid growth accompanied by lack of coordination and regional planning. Currently there are thousands of forensic science laboratories and their services are growing rapidly. The growth and diversity of crime laboratories had come a junction where it is technically difficult to idealize any one laboratory as a typical crime laboratory. In certain countries the laboratories are under the directions of federal government and some are associated with the university. The strength of the laboratories varies from one to hundreds with diversified services being offered depending on the availability of resources in the laboratory. There are number of reason to justify the unparalleled growth of forensic laboratories in the recent years. The requirement from judicial system had come to a stage where evidence without forensic analysis would not be accepted by the court. This can be clearly noticed in cases involving illicit drugs.Â Nowadays successful prosecution of a criminal case demands thorough and accurate investigation which needs a blend of both cutting edge technology equipments and skillful analyst (Saferstein, R., 2001).Â The science of forensics is now identified as an important component in law enforcement and practically a solution of crimes. Crime scene protection from contamination and accurate gathering and interpretation of evidence accurately has been an essential and critical aspect in solving crimes. As an outcome, technology advancement had generally being the choice of most laboratory in exacting and finalizing a specific finding of forensic science, a field in which technical competency is achieved only by the mixture of a number of factors, including formal and hands on training, proficiency, competency, experience, supervision, education, and an appreciation of scientific methods and protocols expected against a background of stringent professional ethics. In this 21st century, forensic science should not only continue to mature and develop but also must have the element of continuous improvement in it. In recent years, the blend of science and technology had enabled analyst and police to solve many crimes that once would have been considered beyond resolution. In the past, the forensic science laboratory was well recognized and excepted. There is something new happening everyday. The analyst were idealized for their 24 hours effort in solving the crime case beginning from crime scene processing, evidence collection, interviewing witness, collecting the body fluids, crime enactments, bench analysis of every type of evidence using the most sophisticated instrument, giving evidence in the court. Being a major benefactor of gigantic advancements in scientific technology, crime laboratories are playing an important role in solving high profile and volume crimes. Well equipped and well managed forensic laboratory are critical element in solving crimes. Forensic science is notable in numerous ways. (Jami St Clair, 2003)
The idea of forensic intelligence remains nebulous and resulted in operational difficulty in actual working environment. Until today the forensic intelligence is associated with database usage such as DNA and fingerprint database, AFIS. Forensic intelligence could play a main role in solving crime cases if the entire system is understood well by both the forensic laboratories and criminal justice system. The modeling approach used had highlighted in depth understanding how forensic cases data could deliver timely intelligence in many situations. The definition of being accurate, timely and useful shows how this intelligence can be use to support the entire investigation. The future forensic science laboratory or the services that it carries with it will depend on training, technology transfer and method research, development, testing and evolution (RDT &E) (Ribaux, Walsh and Margort , 2006).
