Drug therapy involves taking specific form of medication to cure the disease; however, it is rarely helpful for people. A drug named ‘Luxturna’ has been recently approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat the retinal disorder, but it’s priced at around $850,000, which is not affordable for common people. Prosthetic devices offer hope for patients with retinal degenerative diseases, such as macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa, which affect millions of people worldwide. These diseases cause a progressive loss of the retina’s input cells and the photoreceptors, which leads to severe visual impairment [2]. Most of the patients rely on prosthetic devices, which directly give stimulation to the surviving cells, bypassing the damaged retinal tissues. These devices have been successful to an extent that they enable the patient to see bright/high contrast areas, which assist them a bit while they are moving from one place to another. However, these devices have not been able to give the desired vision to the patients; hence something more needs to be done to improve the result.
